The Artery.ca started initially as a regular event to meet others interested in drawing- the Draw Jam. Every week, we would get together in various locales around the city and create a salon where the output was often ideas as well as sketches.
One discussion topic that came up time and again was our appreciation for the local Arts community and our perception of difficulties faced in Vancouver, as with many growing cities, in finding venues for collaborating, resource gathering, exposing one’s work and socializing with other artists. We determined that given our backgrounds in technical fields and digital media a positive means of contributing to our local community was to take our ideas online.
The inevitable question emerged: what kind of website do you create to encapsulate all the things local artists might look for? Vancouver has historically been an exciting frontier for artists, designers and innovators of every stripe. The city’s emerging presence as a world class destination means new ideas, influences and people are arriving every day. Traditional media and high-tech expression reside comfortably together. Inspired by this, ideas took shape and the Artery.ca was born:
-
Forums for demonstrating technique, work in progress, sharing critiques, advice and collaborating
-
Local news, announcements and resources
-
Forum Challenges and Community Projects
The website is now home to several hundred members with interests ranging from fine art and writing to digital media who showcase their output, exchange ideas, resources, and network. As people join and the community grows, our mandate expands to embrace their needs.
Our goal with this site is to get Vancouver's creative blood flowing by gathering people from all art forms and degrees of experience in one place. Please join us in bringing this city closer together. We welcome you!
